I recently heard, from what I generally consider a reliable source, that it is illegal for you to promote that your business has a Facebook fan page or group page in print advertising using a Facebook Icon. Is this true? I see it all the time, but want to be sure our business is on the straight and narrow. Thanks for clearing up this debate.

A quick search on your question turned up a discussion on a developers forum (http://forum.developers.facebook.com/viewtopic.php?id=29398) that says Facebook doesn't condone the use of its icons on applications. Another question in the forum references using the logo in ads: http://forum.developers.facebook.com/viewtopic.php?pid=141439 I would contact FB directly--even with all the free content on the internet, it's important to respect the owners of copyrighted material and ask them. |

We are also in the process of creating print advertising. Here are some basic rules regarding the use of the Facebook Logo on print advertising. You'll have to place (r) and their required one line disclosure. http://www.facebook.com/pages/manage/promo_guidelines.php They are clear that you can only state the words, "Find us on Facebook" as an acceptable use. |

While they do have some restrictions (read their rules), they DO offer a high res logo you can download for print. It's at the bottom of this page: |
