I recently created a website. While working on the site, my client noticed his site was showing up in Google searches. (I did not submit it to any search engines and did not have any inbound links but did have several outbound links.)

How did this website get indexed without any inbound links or submitting it t the search engines?

Your web site logs have good information. I've found inbound links on other sites that I didn't know linked to me until I saw their referrer data in my logs.

Robots.

They're everywhere.

If you've registered the domain and didn't add a robots exclude command, there's a chance it was just luck of the draw that it fell in so fast.

When I first started blogging using Movable Type and I wanted anonymity, I created a file called robots.txt that had some code that kept search engine bots off my site. Check out this site for more info: http://www.robotstxt.org/
