Not to jump in here....but.... http://www.freelancer.com/projects/Blog-Articles/Forum-Posting-Person-Needed.html
I'm looking at the search results for a highly competitive keyword and the #1 result is... a domain purchased today. They've 301'd a previously heavily spammed site. 6000+ root domains with.. ping back, blog comment spam, blatant unnatural links..
3 hours after purchasing its ranking #1.
See for yourself. :(
The keyword is spy cam. Spy camera is top 3..
So interestingly.. The guy who owns ultimatespycamera.net also owns newjerseyplumbingandheating.com. His name is Rafal Niedzialek.
Rafal if you're going to make threats like that, don't be dumb and do it on the web through your twitter account on inbound. Regardless of how you 'say it' its pretty clear what you're putting across.
NJ plumbing = newjerseyplumbingandheating.com
Yep... saw this today as well. Not this specific example but a brand new 1 page website ranking very well for a extremely competitive keyword based on a redirect.
It seems its Penguin's Achilles' heel. Google has to crunch all the numbers before it can apply a penalty. This is maybe why we don't see it as part of the algorithm but a data refresh that happens. By the time Google does catch up, the spammers stop the 301 and apply it to a new domain. I guess the more spam on a domain, the longer it will take google to figure out. 6000+ domains is a lot of data to crunch.
I started researching it and the blackhatters have it down. There many posts about how to do this and how to make it long term. It takes anywhere from 1-2 weeks to 2-3months for the penalty to be passed to the new domain. So when ti happens, you clear the redirect and point at another site. The site above had another domain that they used this trick on.
Fix this Google.
I looked at the creation date of this new site I saw today with 1 page. "Created On:05-Oct-2013"
They know it. Why doesn't google?
I think it may be because of the word "Spy Cam" in the domain. The PA & DA is 1 & still it is ranking on 1st position. Horrible!!
What market is this showing for I tested a few and could not see if? I.e Country and Geo location?
In the US, in incognito search it's number 1.
US. It still shows up in Australia though.
How can we bring this to Matt Cutt's attention?
There is often a "honeymoon" period for new sites, where Google will rank it highly so it can see how actual searchers respond to the search result. Then the site will typically drop off the face of the map, and have to work its way back up the SERPs.
It's rare to see a site that's so new ranking so high (possibly there are some 301 redirects at play here, or just mass links) but I would be surprised to see the site still ranking there a month from now. If this is a keyword you're targeting, I would say don't panic, do a little bit of competitive research on the new site, and keep doing what you're doing.
This isn't honey moon. Its blatant spam.
@ Website Sales Lab - I guess your client my-spycam.com will be very proud tomorrow of you and I hope you do realize what you have done to his business. He will be very proud of you :-) lol
Nothing personal but what if the other guy will take personal against you? did you think about it? You have other clients. Ask yourself - how much good have you done to your clients today? Just think about it.
Njplumbing... lol.. He might but according to Google one site can't hurt another... Right.. Right? lol
He might try to do something but the guy was dumb enough to put his own personal details on the whois lol..
I hope others will learn from your excellent etiquette. I hope this guy will not spend his lunch money on fiver.com on your clients b/c you will be cleaning really a lot of links starting tomorrow for you clients.
Well why would he go for a site that isn't ranking lol. He would go after a site that is ranking right? My-spycam isn't ranking in google?
You're from NJ.. so is the owner of that site... any correlation considering what you've said?
gee… plumbing, spy cameras what else? lol the guy must be a magician too.
almost like a high school student trying to spy on a neighbor's daughter.
Do you really believe it matters right now who owns which domain, who runs which business, who is on the registar info? who does seo? Really? yeah, one person does it all plumbing, spy cameras, philanthropy for kids.
Think about it for a second.
at the end of the day - its about you right now and "Website Sales Lab". Good luck :-)
and by the way - the design of the my-spycam.com is so ugly that no wonder you can't rank it either :-)
How long do you think you have before google picks up on this? :)
I just checked this out. It’s really true. Maybe Google bots are having a reboot when this happened. Just kidding! I think Google is not that perfect after all. This is an opportunity. They grabbed it and totally hit the jackpot. I would like to hear how Matt would react to this matter.
