Hey Larry - thanks for sharing this. I was hiring for SEO positions for Factor Media last summer and received well over 100 applications between intern and FTE positions. Ultimately the process I ended up creating was an initial screening questionnaire (reviewed prior to ever even looking at their resume or reading their cover letter), followed by 10-point resume checklist, 20 minute screening phone call, then phone interview, then final interview... For the most part I used the topgrading methodology with a few tweaks of my own but the results were stellar, wonderful team of 4 people and no turnover :)
Yeah we do something similar, and we also started using a tool called take the interview (http://www.taketheinterview.com/) as an initial questionarre that can sort of replace the phone screen in some instances too.
