I got my start into search marketing from birth- my dad, an electrical engineer, gave me the technical skills needed while my mom, the art teacher, gave me creativity. Later I started writing for various periodicals and then started to dabble in app and web development. The first people to hire me into an SEO job told me they asked Matt Cutts what to look for in a candidate. Allegedly he told them, "someone who knows development, but not necessarily a developer, and someone who knows marketing, but not necessarily a marketer." I was both and neither at the same time- and this has served me well as I've progressed in my career. Now I manage a team of campaign managers while still maintaining clients of my own.
