I've did split-testing for several ecommerce clients. Every time I found reviews increased conversions. Even negative reviews can have a positive effect if they have believability and don't undermine the quality of the product.

Good conclusion. I've found the same and observe other biggies using the hybrind strategy. It just makes sense.
