You put this much thought into a name when you've heard your name pronounced and seen it spelled in many different ways -- each more incorrect than the last. Heck, my Italian grandparents have a certificate on their wall from the Pope's office congratulating them on their 50th wedding anniversary. You guessed it -- "Garofalo" is spelled wrong.
I love my last name and don't know why it's so challenging for people. I'd forever use it amongst friends and family.
And Benedict Cumberbatch... what makes this name more incredible is that it's his real name. Lucky SOB. :)
@copyhackers I like it. I think pricing should be based more firmly around the value you create with your services. If it takes you 10 minutes to come up with a headline that takes someone from $10M/year to $12M/year in revenue -- you deserve more than a lousy 10 minutes worth of fees.
Also on the topic of pen names... what are your thoughts on writers that use a first and middle initial with a full last name?
For my own example, the last name I'm considering switching to, along with my real first and middle name initials is available as a .com and across all major social networks. The length of the .com/profiles would only be six characters total (proposed new last name is only 4 characters and is a legitimate last name that has some sentimental value).
My only concern is that the pen name, J.F. LastName, might seem impersonal.
I'll start with just a few questions and I'm sure I'll have more on March 10th.
Thoughts on running a copywriting business with a pen name when your last name is rarely pronounced or spelled correctly?
Is B2B SaaS a good niche for copywriting? Or, is it too niche?
I'm in a startup and love working with startups. At approximately what company size do you find companies willing and able to pay appropriately for copywriting and related services?
@copyhackers
Thank you Joanna.
