Hey folks!
One key cause of grievance in the community has been self-submissions.
One of the key pieces of feedback from the jobs board and company's hiring is what can be seen on people's profiles. At the moment, we're throttling people from really showing off their skills by disallowing self-promotion.
From today, we've introduced a "Show Inbound" tag. All self-promotion should be handled through the "Show Inbound" tag where members can showcase their own articles, tools, slides etc.
If you share your own stuff on Inbound.org, do it sparingly under the 'Show Inbound' tag and we won't penalise you. Later, we'll probably add these to your profile (so you'll want to make sure you only share your best stuff).
This is an experiment, and we may remove/change it subsequently. If it does become over-run with spam, or certain people are posting too much it's crowding other members out, we'll tweak the rules to make it better for everyone.
The idea with "Show Inbound" is to showcase the very best stuff you've created.
What's the problem with self-promotion anyways?
Nothing, really. But what is a problem is a membership viewing Inbound.org as a place to drop links and be all "take take take" vs. a community to go and add value with "give give give". One's selfish, one's more selfless. It's distinguishing between those two in the context of self-submissions that's hard for us.
If this works well, we might build more functionality around it to make it easier to showcase your own stuff as well as share the best of other people's things.
