Hey Guys

As most of you will know, Mixpanel offer a scheme where users can addd the Mixpanel badge to their sites to get 175,000 free data points. Now for user acquisition, this is a great idea, but I am wondering what the long term SEO effect will be?

Obviously for link building, this is a fantastic method as seen in the Open Site Explorer metrics, but what about the long term as a wide scale widget link building scheme, bearing in mind what the webmaster guidelines say about widely distributed links in the footer of sites (source)?

P.s. I am not here to criticise, just want to get peoples opinions of this as a long term SEO strategy.
