CTR plays an important role, true, however, it is not the only important factor. I once placed the keyword searched by the user dynamically on the landing page, which actually helped improve the quality score quite a bit and allowed us to reduce the costs by about 15-18%.
I could also argue a lot of this, but I won't. CTR plays a hue role into the other factors that make up the quality score. Nice post either way, like reading about this.
Thanks for the feedback, guys. Ankit, you're right, CTR is only one of the factors, but it's certainly the most important one. QS is about predicting a click on an ad. Regarding landing page optimization: As Frederick Vallaeys notes in his excellent post "Quality Score explained by a former Googler" (http://searchengineland.com/quality-score-explained-by-a-former-googler-166007), it gets a lot of attention by advertisers, "probably more than it warrants". But if it works for you that's awesome!
